General Information Concerning Course Waiver Opportunities Some courses offered in the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine can be waived by prior comparable coursework, by waiver examination, or by related work experience as determined by the course instructor. If a course is waived by prior comparable coursework (at MSU or another institution), you do not register for it at MSUCOM. The signed waiver form becomes a part of your academic file at MSUCOM and serves as a record of your completion of those course requirements. If a course is waived by examination or prior employment, a waiver form is completed but you may register for the course, not participate in it, and receive an automatic Pass grade at the end of the semester in which the course was registered. Generally speaking, basic science courses can be waived and courses involving clinical experience and the systems biology courses cannot be waived. The course instructor determines if his/her course can be waived and if there will be any exceptions to waiver opportunities. The MSUCOM Office of Academic Programs will inform you of waiver opportunities (as reported to them by instructors/departments) prior to enrollment for subsequent semesters. If the information is available, a contact person in the appropriate department will be identified so that students can call for further information and/or sign up for waiver examinations. For each course waived, a waiver form must be completed, with the appropriate signatures, and filed with the MSUCOM Office of Student Services. These forms are available in that office (C-103 East Fee Hall) and staff there will assist you with other enrollment questions or concerns. |
