Student Eligibility for Remediation Examinations

It is the responsibility of a student in the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine to verify his/her eligibility, with the Office of Student Services, to take a remediation examination/experience prior to the administration of the remediation examination/experience.

In order to be eligible for a remediation examination/experience a student must meet the following three requirements:

1. A student must be enrolled and/or reinstated in the College of Osteopathic Medicine.

2. A student must have completed and submitted, with appropriate signatures, a Directed Studies Form to the Office of Student Services prior to taking a remediation examination/experience and completed university enrollment for the remediation examination/experience.

3. A student must receive from the Office of Student Services a form authorizing his/her participation in the remediation examination/experience. This form must be submitted to the instructor of record or his/her designee at the time of the remediation examination/experience. Failure to provide the form to the instructor of record or his/her designee will prohibit the student from taking the remediation examination/experience.

Remediation Policy

1. Remediation dates will be predetermined and placed on the semester schedule.

2. Students receiving an N grade in ANTR 551 will be required to retake the course during fall semester (semester 2).

3. Year I students who receive one N grade in any given semester (semesters 2-4) must take the remediation examination which is offered just prior to the subsequent semester. If the student is unable to attend this examination and does not have a legitimate excuse (e.g. death in family, automobile accident, hospitalization, severe illness etc.) approved by Dr. Falls, s/he will need to repeat the course in which the N grade was earned. No makeup remediation examinations will be offered unless a legitimate excuse is approved by Dr. Falls.

4. Year I students who receive more than one N grade in any given semester need to make an appointment with Dr. Falls to determine eligibility and if eligible, which one of the N grades must be remediated prior to the subsequent semester.

5. Just prior to fall semester (semester 5), remediation will be offered for summer courses (semester 4) and for eligible students who received more than one N grade during fall (semester 2) and/or spring semester (semester 3; see number 3).
