Personal Counseling

The College strives to treat each student in a holistic manner, therefore it attempts to provide services to address personal, as well as academic issues. These services and programs include:

1. Individual, confidential consultations on any issues of concern with the Director of Counseling and Personal Development.

2. The Faculty Mentor Program, which is made up of faculty who are available to discuss and listen to issues of concern.

3. The Peer Mentor Program, which consists of second-year students who have been nominated by faculty, staff and student colleagues to assist entering students with various issues of adjustment to medical school and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. (Please visit the bulletin board in the connector wing (E-Wing) of Fee Hall for the names and strengths of these individuals.)

4. The Director of Counseling and Personal Devlopment is the liaison with the departments and counseling services at the University and in the community.


 

Academic Advising

 

Directed by Gillian Bice, Ph.D.
Director of Academic Support

 

Services offered under academic advising include, but are not limited to:

  • Advice relative to the Extended Curricular Program

  • Approaches to enhancing study skills for medical school

  • Identification of basic science tutors

  • Assistance with test anxiety

  • Individual consultation relative to academic performance

  • Liaison with coordinators of basic science courses who are helpful in suggesting learning strategies for successful studying in their classes

  • Liaison with University academic resources
