SOME FACTS

•MSUCOM has achieved international recognition for its research, teaching and clinical practice of osteopathic manual medicine. Its faculty have written books, created videotapes, CD-ROMs, authored scientific papers and articles in professional journals.

•The MSUCOM faculty in the Department of Pediatrics is the largest single provider of pediatric care to poor children in the Lansing area. MSUCOM faculty also work at the Ingham County Health Department and at clinics serving the homeless, persons with substance abuse problems and the indigent. These faculty provide medical services for the Michigan Special Olympics, maintain a Muscular Dystrophy clinic, and conduct health screenings and immunization clinics.

•MSUCOM faculty are involved with a wide variety of international health programs which include, malaria research and clinical care in Malawi, health care consultation in the United Arab Emirates, establishment of a medical clinic in the Belizean jungle, studies of hypertension and HIV infection in Zimbabwe, and development of clinical clerkships abroad.

STUDENT COMMENTS

Minority students at MSUCOM receive strong support from student organizations (e.g. SNMA and ABOMS), as well as minority alumni, faculty and staff. Although minority faculty are limited, there are other instructors and administrative personnel who have a strong and genuine interest in minority student services. — Eric Hawkins, Class of 2003

I have had the privilege to meet some remarkable people. My classmates are an amazing collection of dedicated and caring individuals. It gives me great pride to know that in four years they too will be osteopathic physicians. — Richard Urbina, Class of 2003
