MOCF Ball 2009
       William G. People in the Spotlight

* Peter Ajluni, D.O., past-president of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and professor of osteopathic surgical specialties, has been reappointed as MSUCOM’s AOA Board Liaison.

* Peter Gulick, D.O., professor of internal medicine, was elected as a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), one of only 85 persons worldwide to be so recognized for professional excellence in infectious diseases and related fields. 

* Eric Eggenberger, D.O., professor of neurology and ophthalmology, has been elected president of the Neuro-ophthalmology – Neuro-otology section of the American Academy of Neurology for 2008-2010.

* In addition to Dean William Strampel, D.O., others from MSUCOM recognized among the first American Osteopathic Association Great Pioneers in Osteopathic Medicine were alumna Sister Anne E. Brooks, D.O., Senior Associate Dean Emeritus Philip E. Greenman, D.O., alumna Joyce M. Johnson, D.O., Dean Emeritus Myron S. Magen, D.O.; alumna Barbara Ross-Lee, D.O.; University Distinguished Professor Terrie E. Taylor, D.O.; and Professor Emeritus Robert C. Ward, D.O.

* Alumna Patricia Mucci-Lorusso, chief researcher at Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, was honored with Crain's"Advancement in Healthcare" Award, and alumnus Paul Ehrmann, D.O., who founded the Children's Health Initiative Program, a wellness initiative that encourages children to eat healthier and exercise,  was honored with Crain's "Physical Achievement" Award.

* Peter E. Metropoulos, D.O., M.P.H., FACOEM, a 1990 MSUCOM graduate, has been selected as president-elect for the Michigan Occupational and Environmental Medicine Association (MOEMA).  Dr Metropoulos is, as well, a past-President of the Detroit Occupational Physician Association.
