On Tuesday, June 10, 2008, MSUCOM recognized more
than 100 students with scholarships and grants at the Honors and Scholarship
Dinner held at the Kellogg Center. During the dinner, Kimberley
A. Rockwell was recognized with this year's Staff Excellence award.
Zakaria Sheikhaden
Awarded to a first-year student in good academic standing. Recipient is chosen
based on a 500-word essay outlining his/her experiences and who plants
to recruit and retain a diverse student population.
Richard Bryce, D.O.
Established in memory of Richard L. Alper, who died
in a tragic plane crash in 1975 shortly before his graduation. Presented
to a graduating MSUCOM student for distinguished service to the community.

Awarded to students in need with an emphasis on academic
achievement.

Awarded to an MSUCOM student with preference to those pursuing a career in Neurology

shall be awarded to Latino students who have demonstrated a background serving
the Latino community in the United States, who intend to pursue family practice
or are primary care oriented, who are Michigan residents, and who intend
to practice medicine in an undeserved community.

Awarded only to students who are enrolled in the MSU
College of Osteopathic Medicine and who have received a high school diploma
from Benton Harbor Michigan Public School System, the Flint Public School
system or the Detroit Public School System.

Presented to a graduate who demonstrates leadership and advocacy for the college

Awarded to a student who is enrolled in the Medical
Scientist Training Program and entering the third or fourth year of medical
school, is in good academic standing, demonstrates financial need, intends
to practice medicine in the U.S., shows commitment to community service,

Awarded to a third- or fourth-year student who has expressed
interest in primary care and a genuine interest/curiosity about rural
health care. The award provides a stipend to attend the Annual Rural
Health Conference.

Awarded for four years to a first-year student who is a Michigan resident, is
in good academic standing and maintains a full course load, shows financial
need, meets the moral and ethical standards of the osteopathic profession
and demonstrates promise of making an outstanding contribution to osteopathic
medicine.

with a preference awarded to those in financial need who are planning
to practice emergency medicine.
