MSU Receives Research Grant from the Muscular Dystrophy Association

March 5, 2003

EAST LANSING - The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) has recently provided a large research grant to the medical team at Michigan State University. The new grant was awarded to William Atchinson, Ph.D., and will be used for a study to identify the nerve cell defects that lead to Lambert-Eaton syndrome. Dr. Atchinson is a professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology.

MDA Chapter President Anthony McKenna said, "Our community's support of MDA makes possible this research funding and a vast array of vital services for local people who are affected by neuromuscular diseases."

The award amount is $156,144 and is part of MDA's ongoing relationship with MSU, which includes an MDA clinic at the MSU Clinical Center.
