MSU Receives Research Grant from the
Muscular Dystrophy Association

EAST LANSING - The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) has recently provided
a large research grant to the medical team at Michigan State University. The
new grant was awarded to William Atchinson, Ph.D., and will be used for a study
to identify the nerve cell defects that lead to Lambert-Eaton syndrome. Dr.
Atchinson is a professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology.
MDA Chapter President Anthony McKenna said, "Our community's support
of MDA makes possible this research funding and a vast array of vital services
for local people who are affected by neuromuscular diseases."
The award amount is $156,144 and is part of MDA's ongoing relationship with
MSU, which includes an MDA clinic at the MSU Clinical Center.
