Focus on Research

Research Recognition Day -  College of Osteopathic Medicine   Friday April 25, 2014 – 1:00 – 5:00 pm, C102 East Fee Hall - Patenge Room
Research Recognition Day will provide an opportunity for MSUCOM medical students to share their research efforts with the campus community. The program encourages the development of joint research projects and increases awareness of the quality and range of research conducted at MSUCOM.

If you would like to participate and have your original research displayed in a poster format and distributed in a  book of abstracts  please submit your abstract to     Justin McCormick   no later than by April 1, 2014

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies requests applications for the 2014 Discretionary Funding Initiative (DFI)
The Discretionary Funding Initiative (DFI), funded by the Michigan State Foundation, provides bridge funds for tenure stream faculty for additional studies needed for resubmission of a grant application. To request funding from this program, COM faculty should submit a request to the COM Research Associate Dean, Justin McCormick ( using the attached form, Deadline for applicants to submit applications to the college is March 13, 2014. Applicants will be expected to provide copies of their previous external reviews, if applicable, and describe the work that will be completed to address the comments provided in these documents. Requests for support approved by the Research Associate Deans will be forwarded to the Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies in a prioritized list. The maximum award from the OVPRGS will be $25K and requires at least a 50% match from units/colleges.  COM will provide up to a 25% match and the applicants department will be required to provide at least a 25% match.  The PIs of the recommended projects will be required to submit an electronic transmittal. Funds will be made available for up to two fiscal years, and annual reports will be required at the end of the first and second year of funding.
 Discretionary Funding Initiative (DFI) Important Dates
Session II: February 13, 2014- RFA
March 13, 2014            Deadline for applicants to submit applications to their college. 
April 3, 2014   Deadline for Research Associate Deans to submit applications to the OVPRGS. 
April 10, 2014 -Transmittal must be finalized for applications that were sent to the OVPRGS for consideration.
April 24, 2014 Funding announcements will be made.
May 8, 2014 Project start date.
