Quarterly Student Report
Spring,
2000
April 23, 2000
Winter term began with the MSUCOM Prom. This event, held
in January, was a big success. Students and
staff mingled and dressed in their finest. There was a
sit-down dinner. Proceeds went to benefit the Student Council travel
allocation fund.
The same weekend many students went up north for lectures
and skiing hosted by the Michigan Branch of the
ACOFP.
The college web page has undergone stunning modification,
bringing our school up-to-date and Y2K ready. Each club posted an entry
about their activities, creating a great electronic information service about
student activities at MSUCOM.Our annual fund-raiser this year was Vegas Night,
held on April 15th. Proceeds went to Habitat for Humanity. Students
will also gather on April 29 to build a house in the area using the profits
from Vegas Night. This year's theme was Mad Hatter's Vegas Party, and
there was a raffle with prizes including a week at a luxury condo in Cancun
plus airfare, a DVD player, and a cash prize.
The student lounge was repainted and refurbished on the
weekend of April 1. A lovely mural with the
college logo will replace the mauve sponge paint. Some of the furniture
was replaced as well. This project is made possible by a generous donation
from the Dean's Office.
Each spring the students write skits for Fee Follies. These
skits parody student life and professors' idiosyncrasies. This
year Student Council is selling t-shirts that say "You know you're a
med student when..." on the back as a fund-raiser.
Graduation is going to be on Thursday, May 4 at the Wharton
Center. Seniors will be honored at a banquet afterwards. Michigan
State COM is extremely proud of its graduating seniors!
Second year students have begun to study for boards. We
are fortunate to have professors lecturing students
biweekly on topics ranging from pharmacology to biochemistry. Dinner
is provided before these sessions our various clubs.
Capitol House Call was held on April 12. Students and members
of the Michigan Osteopathic Association discussed
osteopathic issues with members of the state legislature. MSUCOM had
a great turn-out at the event and students enjoyed meeting their senators,
representatives and colleagues in the MOA.
Michigan State's Basketball team, led by Mateen Cleaves
and Morris Peterson took the Final Four in Indianapolis by storm. Go State!
