2009 Las Vegas Night and Charity Raffle

The Student Government Association (SGA) Annual Las Vegas Night and Charity Raffle for 2009 were extremely successful.  Over two hundred, students, faculty, staff, alumni, clinical faculty, friends and family attended the event at the beautiful Eagle Eye Golf Club, in Bath, Michigan on Friday, January 16, 2009.  Our theme for the event was James Bond 007 (but with a stethoscope instead of a gun).

Blackjack, Craps, Money Wheel and Roulette tables were busy with individuals trying their luck to win and to raise money to benefit The Cystinosis Research Fund  www.natalieswish.org and the MSUCOM Student Organizations.  This foundation is the largest fund provider of cystinosis research in the world and is currently funding 24 studies.  This charity was selected because of Zacqary Beers who was born with cystinosis.  Zacqary is the son of Rob Beers, a MSUCOM Class of 2011 student.  Cystinosis is considered an “orphan” disease and therefore receives little attention and depends upon the private sector for funding.  This year, after our expenses, we will be donating $7,000 to the Cystinosis Research Fund with the remainder going to SGA Student Organizations.

Not only was this year’s event a success because of attendance, but also in part because of all the students, faculty, staff, alumni, clinical faculty, friends and family members that purchased raffle tickets and to our sponsors, who this event would have not been possible.
