MSU's International Health Project held its Annual International Dinner on
Monday, November 15 in Fee Hall. The dinner was organized by students from
the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the College of Human Medicine. Dozens
of dishes featuring recipes from around the world were available to sample,
and all the food was prepared by medical students and their families. In addition
to the good eating, guests were treated to entertainment recognizing the diversity
of the student body. Performers demonstrated dances from India, Ireland, Latin
America, and the Middle East. There was also an a cappella performance by Sympathetic
Tones, a singing group comprising students from COM, CHM and the College of
Veterinary Medicine.
The dinner raises funds to sponsor foreign medical students, and celebrates
the diversity of the student body. The International Health Project (IHP) is
part of the International Federation of Medical Students. Each year MSUCOM
students travel to different countries around the globe for a international
medical experience. In return, MSUCOM hosts an equal number of foreign medical
students who wish to visit the United States. It costs IHP around $1,200 to
support each student who visits.
