EAST LANSING - One person can make a difference. Or in this case,
two people. Anna Adama and Benjamin Salter of MSUCOM’s Class of 2006 dedicated their
time and energy to making a difference in the lives of Detroit’s underserved
children. Anna and Benji compiled a calendar of MSUCOM’s first-year students,
spending several days shooting pictures of their fellow classmates in various
clinical and classroom settings. The calendar was intended to be a humorous
way of demonstrating life as a medical student, while simultaneously raising
money for the Pediatric Mobile Team of the Children’s Hospital of Michigan.
The Pediatric Mobile Team is an extremely important program for many of Detroit’s
underserved children. Money donated is used to provide various services, such
as immunizations, free physical exams, and education to parents regarding their
children’s health. The team serves many children who may otherwise be
overlooked by the health care system.
MSUCOM’s Class of 2006 donated $159 to this cause. Of the several charities
discussed, this one was chosen because it would serve to benefit many who,
unfortunately, often go unnoticed. The two have discussed making this type
of fundraiser a tradition – one that can be carried out even after they
have moved on.
