Open House March 27
More than 300 visitors attended the MSUCOM
Open House on March 27. Undergraduate advisors from the University of
Michigan, Saginaw Valley State University, MSU, Spring Arbor University
and Adrian College toured with prospective students, incoming students from
the soon-to-be Class of 2013 and their families and friends. Tours showcased
student organizations, the state-of-the-art Learning Assessment Center,
a sample classroom using distance learning technology and ample opportunities
to speak with students and alumni about their experiences.
Seminar in the Sun
Eighty-three physicians and family members attended MSUCOM’s annual
Seminar in the Sun March 7-14 at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Ten alumni
offered a 20-hour continuing medical education program entitled “Healthy
Lifestyle and Preventive Care: Future Directions.”
International
Health Dinner
The International Health Project held their annual dinner March 19, which
included a variety of ethnic foods, international entertainment, clothing
from many nations, and a silent auction fundraiser.
Owosso Alumni Event
College staff and administrators greeted local alumni at a reception
in Owosso on March 25.

People in the spotlight
- Gail Riegle,
Ph.D., associate dean for academic programs, has been selected to receive
the 2009 Association of Osteopathic Directors
and Medical Educators Lifetime Achievement Award. The award will be
presented during the President’s Reception at the annual AODME meeting
on April 24 in Seattle.
- John LaPres,
Ph.D., and Carol
Wilkins, Ph.D., of the Department of Biochemistry have received the AT&T
award in the Blended (Hybrid) Course category for the changes they
have implemented in “Medical Biochemistry,” BMB 514. The
award, funded by AT&T, recognizes outstanding contributions to the
use and development of information technology for teaching and learning
in credit-bearing courses at MSU.
- Katie
Perz, a third-year MSUCOM student, has been selected as the 2009
D.O. Student of the Year for her community service and extracurricular
activities.
