* MSUCOM is
pleased to announce the recipients of the 2008 Walter F. Patenge Medal of
Public Service: William Gifford, MD; Janet Olszewski, MSW; and Susan
Sevensma, DO. Recipients will be honored and presented with the Patenge
Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the college, on May 5.
* Mary Hughes,
DO, Professor and Chairperson, Department of Internal Medicine, and MSUCOM
Class of 1982, has been selected as a Hero of Emergency Medicine by the American
College of Emergency Physicians. This honor recognizes emergency medicine
physicians who have made significant contributions to their specialty,
their communities, and their patients.
* Michael
Boivin, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology,
served as a member of the Peer Review Committee for Fulbright Scholar Awards
to East Africa for the 2007-2008 academic year.
* MSUCOM hosted
a presentation on January 12 for faculty, staff, and students in honor of
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Linda Goerke Schmidt, a nurse with the
Ingham County Health Department, presented “Will You Build a Bridge
Over the Cultural Divide?”
* College
faculty and staff greeted alumni and friends at the Michigan Association
of Osteopathic Family Physicians (MAOFP) Conference at Shanty Creek, and
also hosted a reception on Saturday evening.
