Month in Review

Released: May 2007

* The Walter F. Patenge Medal of Public Service ceremony was held on April 25 at the University Club of MSU.  Four individuals were honored as recipients of this prestigious award:  William C. Cunningham, DO, MHA, John K. Everett, DO, David L. Porteous, JD, and Earl J. Reisdorff, MD.  These distinguished individuals join the list of only 116 recipients who have been honored with this award since 1971.

* Anthony Paganini, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Division of Anatomy, Department of Radiology, was selected by the MSU graduating class of 2007 as the recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award for the entire university.  This is the highest award that undergraduate students present to faculty members.

* MSUCOM hosted an Employee Appreciation Ice Cream Social on April 10.  Nearly 70 employees enjoyed a mid afternoon treat served by Dean Strampel and Senior Associate Dean Riegle.

* The annual Honors and Scholarship Dinner was held on April 19, with scholarship donors and student recipients recognized.  Honors included the Student DO of the Year Award which was presented to Melissa Wolinski, MSUCOM Class of 2009, and the Staff Excellence Award which was presented to Debra Huelga, Office Assistant III in the Statewide Campus System office.

* Albert S. Aniskiewicz, Ph.D., A.B.P.P., professor, Departments of Psychiatry and Neurology and Ophthalmology, authored a book entitled “Psychotherapy for Neuropsychological Challenges”.  The book provides clinicians with guidance in addressing the psychological care of patients with neurological disorders.  For more information, visit the Department of Psychiatry website at www.psychiatry.msu.edu.

* Pamela Fraker, Ph.D., professor, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, has been elected as a member of the National Academy Of Sciences.  Members are selected for their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.
