* Peter Ajluni, DO, Clinical Professor of Osteopathic Surgical Specialties, has been named President-Elect of the American Osteopathic Association.

* Carol Monson, DO, Acting Chairperson and Associate Professor, Department of Family and Community Medicine, and MSUCOM Class of 1979, and Larry Wickless, DO, Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine, have been reappointed to the Board of Trustees of the American Osteopathic Association.

* David Kaufman, DO, Chairperson and Professor, Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology, was awarded a Presidential Citation by the outgoing president of the American Osteopathic Association, Philip Shettle, DO.  The citation honored Dr. Kaufman’s service to the profession and recognized his clinical research in neuro-ophthalmology and the establishment of a research-intensive Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology at Michigan State University.  The citation also mentioned Dr. Kaufman’s leadership in several multi-center studies on multiple sclerosis and stroke, and for leading the authoring of the American Academy of Neurology’s Practice Parameters for optic neuritis.

* Margaret Aguwa, DO, MPH, Associate Dean of Community Outreach and Clinical Research, and Professor of Family and Community Medicine; and Lisa DeStefano, DO, Chairperson and Assistant Professor, Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, and MSUCOM Class of 1993, have been selected to the incoming class of scholars for the Costin Institute for Osteopathic Medical Educators beginning in September of 2006.

* John Crisler, DO, Clinical Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine, and MSUCOM Class of 2001, co-hosted the 2006 American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine International Congress in Chicago on July 14-17.

* An alumni event, hosted by William Grace, DO, Clinical Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine, and MSUCOM Class of 1983, was held in Cadillac on July 11 at Herman’s European Restaurant.  Special guests included MSU Trustee David Porteous and MOA Executive Director Dennis Paradis.
