- E. James Potchen, MD, University Distinguished
Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Radiology, was recognized
as a renaissance man with an artwork commissioning in his honor on
June 29. The surprise reception included colleagues from around
the world who joined the event to recognize Dr. Potchen’s outstanding
dedication and commitment to Michigan State University.
- John Goudreau, DO, PhD, Associate Professor,
Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology, and Department of Pharmacology
and Toxicology, received an NIH grant award in support of the MSU
Parkinson Disease Clinical Center to determine the neuroprotective
effects of target drugs in patients with Parkinson’s disease. The
grant supports MSU as a clinical trial center in this NIH-funded,
North American longitudinal study. Dr. Goudreau also authored
a book chapter entitled “Hereditary spinocerebellar degeneration” in Neurological
Therapeutics, 2006.
- MSUCOM had a representative present
for all intern and resident graduation ceremonies at all of the Statewide
Campus System hospitals.
- Eugene Oliveri, DO, MS, MACOI, FACG,
FACOS, Special Assistant to the Dean, Clinical Professor of Internal
Medicine, and President of the Michigan Osteopathic College Foundation,
delivered the keynote address to the entering Class of 2010 at the
Convocation ceremony on June 30. White coats were presented
to 206 students to symbolize the beginning of their osteopathic medical
education.
- Annmarie Cook, MSUCOM graphic designer,
was recognized with the Outstanding Staff Award on June 15.
- Gerson I. Cooper, President and CEO
of Botsford Healthcare Continuum, Zieger Healthcare Corporation,
received the Thomas V. Angott Award during the June 30 Convocation
ceremony.
- Administrators from the Office of the
Dean represented MSUCOM at the American Association of Colleges of
Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) annual meetings in Baltimore on June
21-25.
