- George Thomas, D.O., President of the American Osteopathic Association,
visited MSUCOM on Friday, October 22. President Thomas was welcomed for a
breakfast discussion at the MOA with members of the MOA Board, MSUCOM administrators,
and students, then talked with 1st and 2nd year students regarding the AOA
and osteopathic medicine, delivered a presentation at Campus Day to 3rd and
4th year students, and then enjoyed a reception with student leaders at the
Kellogg Center.
- David Kaufman, D.O., Chairperson and Professor, and Eric Eggenberger, D.O.,
Professor, Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology, served as editors of
a monograph for Ophthalmology Clinics of North America entitled, "Neuro-ophthalmologic
manifestations of systemic disease".
- The college hosted a dinner for almost 30 alumni and friends in Midland
on October 13. Robert Snyder, D.O., MSUCOM Class of 1979, assisted the college
with planning of the event.
- On October 14, Dean Strampel and several college administrators participated
in the MSU Alumni Association Awards ceremony. One of this year's honorees
was Darrell Grace, D.O., MSUCOM Class of 1992, who received the Community
Service Award for her efforts to care for the indigent in Youngstown, Ohio.
- Susan Wehner, R.N., Specialist in the Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology,
has been selected as an intermittent stroke surveyor for the Joint Commission
on Accreditation of Health Organizations (JCAHO).
- MOA Executive Director Dennis Paradis presented, "Where the Presidential
Candidates Stand on Health Care Issues" to approximately 50 students during
a MOA sponsored luncheon on October 21.
- MSUCOM held the annual "D.O. The Monster Dash" 5K Run/Walk on October 24.
The event was organized by the Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA)
and raised money for local charities. Proceeds form this year's run will
benefit the Area 8 Special Olympics and Tim Francisco, D.O.. Dr. Francisco
is a 2001 alumnus of MSUCOM who received a double lung transplant. To see

- More than 150 faculty, staff, and students participated in the 10th Annual
Dinner with Docs event on October 28, which included a theme and costumes
of the '80s.

fundraising dinner to sponsor international student study at COM, E105/109
Fee Hall. Please bring a dish to pass.
- Wednesday, November 17, Oakland County Alumni and Friend Dinner at the
Matter of Taste, Commerce Township.
- Thursday, November 18, 2004, 12:00 noon, Diversity Education Series - "Osteopathic
Medicine in the Inner City", presented by Kevin Frankel, D.O., E105 Fee Hall,
