  • MSUCOM is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2004 Walter F. Patenge Medal of Public Service. Peter Ajluni, D.O.; Lawrence Bass; Prince Holliday (posthumously); and William Johnston, D.O. (posthumously). The medals will be bestowed on August 27 at the Patenge Luncheon and Medal Ceremony.

  • A special thank you and recognition to the following organizations for continuing as sponsors of the Silverfest Alumni Weekend: Ingham Regional Medical Center, Dinner/Dance Sponsor; Metropolitan Hospital - Grand Rapids, Osteopathic Open Sponsor; and the MSU Federal Credit Union, Registration Sponsor. Silverfest Alumni Weekend is scheduled for September 17-18, 2004.

  • Christopher Glisson, D.O., MSUCOM Class of 2002 and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology, has been chosen as a recipient of the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting Resident Scholarship. He was selected from hundreds of neurology residents nationwide to receive this scholarship in recognition of his research work that will be presented at the AAN annual meeting in April.

  • The MSUCOM Alumni Association held its annual Seminar in the Sun, March 6-13 in Ixtapa, Mexico. Approximately 80 alumni, friends, and their families enjoyed the beautiful Melia Azul resort and the surrounding area. Highlights of the trip included an excellent 20 hour CME course chaired by Mary Jo Voelpel, D.O., and co-chaired by Glen Hatcher, D.O., both members of the Class of 1975. Other instructors included Eugene Conte, D.O., Class of 1978, Laura Hershkowitz, D.O., Class of 1992, Catherine Kerschen, D.O., Class of 1992, Michael James, D.O., Jed Magen, D.O., Ronald Miller, D.O., Class of 1984, Laura Mohr, Ph.D., Tom Mohr, D.O., Eugene Oliveri, D.O., Justine Smith, M.D., and John Tower, D.O., Class of 1985.

  • The Spring Semester Faculty Assembly was held on Wednesday, March 31. Dean Strampel presented an update on the college and all committees in the academic governance system delivered annual reports to the faculty.

  • Margaret Knapp, M.D., COO of the MSU HealthTeam and Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs (COM and CHM), received an Honorary Membership from the Michigan Osteopathic Association. Carol Monson, D.O., AOA Board of Trustees, presented Dr. Knapp with the honor at the Faculty Assembly.

  • The Las Vegas Night and Charity Raffle was held on Saturday, March 27, at Hawk Hollow Golf Course. Faculty, staff, students, and friends of MSUCOM enjoyed an evening of gaming and dancing to western music. Proceeds from the event will benefit the MSU Student Food Bank.

  • The MSU Community Charitable Campaign awarded the COM Dean's Office the "Rising Star Award" for achieving 70% of our goal for the 2003-2004 campaign.
