• MSUCOM celebrated the graduation of another class of osteopathic physicians on May 1 during the 2003 Hooding and Commencement ceremony.
  
• Robert Milewski, Chief Executive Officer of Mt. Clemens General Hospital, and Vance Powell, D.O., Director of Medical Education at Botsford General Hospital, were each elected to a three-year term on the SCS Governing Board.
  
• Gary Willyerd, D.O., MSUCOM Class of 1978, received the Michael Opipari, D.O. Distinguished Service Award. The award was presented in recognition of superior accomplishments in medical administration, research, teaching excellence, scholarship, and/or mentorship within the member institutions of the Statewide Campus System.
  
• Courtney Scher, MSUCOM Class of 2005, won the competition for Best Research by a Medical Student, as well as the award for Best Overall Research Poster (student or resident) at the 5th Annual MSU/Flint Area Medical Education Research Excellence Day.
  
• Mitzi Amelon, D.O., MSUCOM Class of 1989, and Steve Dupuis, D.O., MSUCOM Class of 1976 and Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine, were elected to the MSUCOM Alumni Association Board of Directors.
  
• MSUCOM hosted a reception for alumni, faculty, and friends at the MOA Annual Convention in Dearborn on May 15.
  
• Grant Kidd, MSUCOM Class of 2004, received a Medical Student Fellowship grant from the American Heart Association Stroke Council. Sponsored by Alex Chen, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, the project is titled "The Role of Tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) in Focal Cerebral Ischemia".
  
• Gary Willyerd, D.O., MSUCOM Class of 1978, was appointed as President-Elect of the AODME. He also received the AODME Leadership Award in appreciation and recognition of his dedicated service and commitment to the AODME and to osteopathic medical education.
  
• Congratulations to the following faculty with publications during May: Drs. W.D. Atchison, B.I. Copple, A.K. Farraj, M.T. Flink, P.E. Ganey, J.I. Goodman, U.M. Hanumegowda, J.R. Harkema, T.R. Jan, N.E. Kaminski, F. Moulin, C.A. Northcott, R.A. Roth, S.W. Watts.
