  • Anthony Minissale, D.O., President of the American Osteopathic Association, visited the college on November 1. Dr. Minissale presented to students and met with faculty and executive staff members during his visit.

  • The college's residency program in neurology received approval from the ACGME.

  • "Building Osteopathic Connections: Meet the SCS Hospital Administrators," was held on November 20. Twenty senior administrators from SCS hospitals and more than 100 students discussed various issues related to medical education and healthcare delivery, as well as several other topics of interest to first and second year osteopathic medical students.

  • Deborah Wagenaar, D.O., Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, successfully defended her master's thesis, "Depression in Assisted Living." Dr. Wagenaar will receive her master's in epidemiology in December 2002, and completed her degree as a COM faculty member enrolled in the TRECOS program.

  • Stephanie Watts, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, has been appointed to the Editorial Boards of the American Journal of Physiology: Heart and Circulation, and Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology.

  • Robert Ward, D.O., Professor Emeritus, Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, is the executive editor for the 2nd edition of Foundations for Osteopathic Medicine, which was recently released by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins.

  • Congratulations to Danielle Tanis, the new president for the Class of 2006.

  • Jon Lacey, RelD, Director of MSU's AIDS Education and Training Center, has been invited to Moscow, Russia by the Russian Orthodox Patriarch to explore collaborations on HIV/AIDS care and prevention. Russia is noted by UNAIDS as having the most rapidly growing rate of HIV infection globally.

  • The Michigan Osteopathic Medicine Advisory Board held their quarterly meeting on November 25. The board continues to focus on issues related to college finances, minority student recruitment, government relations, research, and development.

  • Physicians providing instruction and training to MSUCOM students within the SCS base hospital system must have a current clinical faculty appointment. To check the status of an appointment or to receive an application, please contact Colleen Kniffen at 517-355-9616 or kniffen@msu.edu.
