William D. Strampel, DO, was named Dean of the MSU College of Osteopathic
Medicine, effective April 15, 2002. Dean Strampel is the fourth Dean in
the history of MSUCOM, and previously served the college as Acting Dean
and Senior Associate Dean.

Governor Engler has reappointed Thomas Angott and Gary Lynd, DO to the
Michigan Osteopathic Medicine Advisory Board. Mr. Angott has served on
the MOMAB since 1972, and has been the chair of the board since 1984. Dr.
Lynd joined the board in 2001.

In Fall of 2002, the following MSU students will enter the Osteopathic
Medical Scholars program: Melissa Braniecki, Horacio Duarte, Roohy Gupta,
Sonia Khaleel, Emmanuel Melonakos, Shawna Mongiat, Christopher Moore, Subir
Shah, Simran Singh, Cecilia Tran.

Sandy Kilbourn, Executive Director/External Programs,
has been appointed to the Women's Advisory Committee to the Provost.

Two MSUCOM students received new positions on the National SOMA Board.
Christopher Bannigan (Class of 2004) will serve as the SOMA Foundation
Associate Director of Grants, and Mindy Frimodig (Class of 2004) will serve
as the SOMA Foundation Associate Director of Scholarships.

MSUCOM continues its top ranking among the osteopathic colleges for graduate
participation in the AOA internship match program. Of 120 students, 108
(90%) in the Class of 2002 matched with AOA accredited internship programs,
with 101 of the graduates accepting positions within the MSUCOM Statewide
Campus System. Three members of the class anticipate receiving AOA approval
for enrollment in ACGME accredited programs not available in the osteopathic
system, two students are delaying starting internships until 2003, one
remains unmatched, and six students were non-participants in the AOA program,
anticipating acceptance into ACGME positions.

The college hosted an Open House on Friday, April
19. Visitors and potential applicants enjoyed osteopathic manipulative
medicine demonstrations, information
on admission, clinical case presentations, tours of the Osteopathic Historical
Museum, and discussions with current osteopathic medicine students.
