  • MSUCOM will host the Visiting Minority Faculty Lecture Series during February. We invite you to join us each Thursday of February at 4:00 pm at the Kellogg Center for presentations by notable scholars from across the country. For further information on specific presenters or lecture topics, or to register for these seminars, please contact 517-432-4979.

  • MSUCOM is pleased to announce that a sole award for the 2002 Patenge Medal of Public Service will be awarded posthumously to Allen W. Jacobs, DO, PhD. The awards luncheon and ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 23, 2002, in conjunction with the 2002 Convocation Ceremony for the Class of 2006.

  • William G. Anderson, Sr., DO, Associate Dean of the Michigan Region for the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Clinical Professor in the Department of Osteopathic Surgical Specialties, will be awarded with an Honorary Degree by Michigan State University on May 3, 2002. This is the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the university.

  • MSUCOM hosted the Second Annual Visiting Minority Faculty Lecture Series entitled "Slavery to Freedom: An American Odyssey". Held every Thursday in February, this program celebrated Black History Month by bringing to campus four of the most noted leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. Speakers included Rev. Dr. Joseph Roberts, Jr., Senior Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta; Mr. Dick Gregory, comedian and civil rights leader; Dr. Dorothy Cotton, former education director for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference; and the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr., Senior Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. Appreciation is expressed to William G. Anderson, DO for his significant contribution to making these events possible.

  • The College Advisory Council and Michigan Osteopathic Medicine Advisory Board met to discuss the search and appointment process for the Dean position of MSUCOM.

  • All campus and community faculty who wish to participate in the 2002 Hooding and Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 2 at the Wharton Center, must reserve academic attire by March 29. Please contact Colleen Kniffen at 517-355-9616 or kniffen@msu.edu for further details.

  • Rear Admiral Clinton E. Adams, DO, MPA, FAAFP, FACHE, Commander of the Naval Medical Center and Lead Agent of TRICARE Mid-Atlantic, has been confirmed as the keynote speaker for the 2002 Hooding and Commencement Ceremony. Admiral Adams is the highest-ranking osteopathic physician on active duty in the US Navy.

  • The governor-appointed Michigan Osteopathic Medicine Advisory Board held their quarterly meeting on February 28. The Board continues to focus on four priority areas Government Relations, Minority Student Recruitment, Research/Scholarly Activity, and Development.

  • A dinner in celebration of Black History Month was hosted by MSUCOM students. Proceeds from the event are used to support the Margaret I. Aguwa, DO, MPH Scholarship Fund. Over 125 people enjoyed an African-American buffet, entertainment by a jazz singer and pianist, and a presentation on African-American medical history.

  • Barbara Ball-McClure, former Development Director for MSUCOM, has moved to University Development and will be working in special gifts. During the interim, development related questions or information requests should be referred to Associate Vice President Marti Heil in University Development at 517-353-3121, ext. 267, or Colleen Kniffen in the Office of the Dean at 517-355-9616 or kniffen@msu.edu.

  • On February 12, 2002, MSUCOM and MOA held a legislative health fair. MSUCOM students performed glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure checks for legislators and staff at the capitol. This event provided a great opportunity for students and alumni to interact with their local  legislators.

  • The MSUCOM community came together to raise money at the Eighth Annual Las Vegas Night and Charity Raffle held on February 9. The event, sponsored by the Michigan Osteopathic Association, raised over $9000. Half of the proceeds will go to Lansing's Ele's Place, a support center for grieving children, and the remainder will be used tosupport MSUCOM Student Council activities.

  • The UAAO Auction was held on February 23, with several people enjoying both a live and silent auction for numerous items, including weekend getaways, dinners, and athletic tickets.

  • MSUCOM, in collaboration with the College of Human Medicine and the MSU HealthTeam will host a continental breakfast on Thursday, March 28, from 7:00-9:00 am in the Patenge Room in celebration of National Doctors Day. All faculty physicians are welcome, please RSVP to Kimberly Betts at 517-355-9616 or bettski@msu.edu.
