The Class of 2010 officially started as first-year
medical students at the 36th annual Convocation and White Coat ceremony
which was held at the Wharton Center. Each year, the entering class participates
in this event to mark their entrance into the medical profession through
their admission into MSUCOM. The 205 students were addressed by Dr. Eugene
Oliveri who gave the Convocation address. Oliveri, serves as professor
of internal medicine for the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic
Medicine and is president of the Michigan Osteopathic College Foundation
Board, emphasized the rewards and hardships that come with being a medical
student.
The Thomas
Angott award, which was presented during the ceremony, was given to Gerson
Cooper for his excellent work in hospital administration and his positive
effect on osteopathic education.
