The 126 students of the Class of 2006, began the newest phase of their educational
journey at MSUCOM's 32nd annual convocation at the Wharton Center
on August 23. Students received white coats from faculty marshals as their
official welcome to the college.
Also honored was MSUCOM's third dean, Allen W. Jacobs, D.O., Ph.D., who was
this year's sole recipient of the Walter F. Patenge Medal of Public Service.
The award was given posthumously to his wife Kris. Dr. Jacobs was lauded as
a "great teacher and healer."
The program also included a keynote address by MSU President Emeritus Gordon
Guyer, PhD, a speech by MSU Student Council President Denny Martin, greetings
from Michigan Osteopathic Association president Carol Monson, D.O., a welcome
from MSUCOM Alumni Association president David Neff, D.O., the presentation
of this year's Osteopathic Medical Scholars and the administration of the convocation
oath.
