NOTMAN AWARDED MICHIGAN OSTEOPATHIC ASSOCIATION PRESIDENTIAL CITATION

Dearborn, Michigan— Mark Notman, PhD., of East Lansing, received a Presidential Citation from the Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA) in recognition of his service to the association and the profession as a founding member and current co-chair of the MOA Informatics and Technology Committee.  He received the citation at the MOA House of Delegates meeting on May 9, held in conjunction with the MOA’s 108th Annual Postgraduate Convention and Scientific Seminar at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, Michigan.

“The MOA wanted to acknowledge and thank Dr. Notman for his more than 10 years of guidance and input to the MOA Informatics and Technology Committee.  This MOA Presidential Citation is formal recognition of his commitment to the association and the osteopathic profession,” said John Bodell, D.O., 2006\2007 MOA President.

“I’m honored to receive this citation.  It’s a great privilege to have the opportunity to serve the profession in promoting the adoption of health information technology and informatics to improve health care delivery and patient safety,” said Dr. Notman.

Dr. Notman received his Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology from the University of Michigan-Flint and his Master of Arts and PhD in anthropology from Michigan State University.  Currently, Dr. Notman is executive director of administrative services and chief technical officer for the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM).  In addition, he is an associate professor in the Department of Osteopathic Surgical Specialties, MSUCOM and an assistant adjunct professor in the MSU Department of Anthropology.

In addition to his position as co-chair of the MOA Informatics and Technology Committee, Dr. Notman serves as chairman of the American Osteopathic Academy of Medical Informatics (AOAMI) Credentials Committee, a member of the AOAMI Executive Board and a member of the Rural Health Initiative Telehealth/Telemedicine Workgroup for the Michigan Center for Rural Health and Michigan Department of Community Health.  He was also appointed by Gov. Granholm to represent medical schools on the State Health Information Technology Commission.

The Michigan Osteopathic Association represents more than 7,000 osteopathic physicians and students and promotes osteopathic medicine in Michigan by shaping the health care delivery system to better serve the community.  To learn more about the MOA and osteopathic medicine, visit the MOA website at www.mi-osteopathic.org.
