 JUOCYS NAMED PHYSICIAN OF THE YEAR BY MICHIGAN ASSOCIATION OF OSTEOPATHIC FAMILY PHYSICIANS

      Dr. Al Joucys
Okemos, Michigan— Algirdas Juocys, D.O., was named the 2006 Family Physician of the Year by the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians, Inc. (MAOFP) on July 29, 2006.  The award is given each year at the annual MAOFP Summer Family Practice Symposium & Risk Management Seminar to recognize an osteopathic physician who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to promoting osteopathic family medicine in the state of Michigan.

      Dr. Juocys is a 1977 graduate of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.  In private family practice in Rochester for more than 25 years, he also currently serves as the Medical Director of Medical Network One, an interactive health management service provider offering comprehensive disease management support for individuals living with chronic conditions.  

      Dr. Juocys works to benefit the osteopathic profession through many service and leadership roles.  He is a past president of the Oakland County Osteopathic Association and held the position of Chair at the Department of Family Medicine at Crittenton Hospital, where he is an active member of the medical staff.

      Dr. Juocys is a member of the Army National Guard, presently holding the rank of Colonel.  He was deployed for an active tour of duty in Iraq in 2004 and will be returning in September.   Dr. Juocys also participated in relief efforts to provide medical assistance to the victims of Hurricane Katrina at Fort Custer. He resides in Oakland Township with his wife, Ewa Matuszewski. They have two adult daughters.

      The Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians, Inc. is a non-profit association whose mission is to advance the standards of family practice in the field of osteopathic medicine and surgery in the state of Michigan.  The MAOFP works to encourage and improve educational opportunities for the training of family physicians and to promote and maintain the highest moral and ethical standards in the practice of osteopathic medicine.
