DR. DOANE AWARDED MICHIGAN OSTEOPATHIC ASSOCIATION PRESIDENTIAL CITATION

By Cheri Rugh

May 28, 2007

Dearborn, Michigan— Cheryl Doane, D.O., of East Lansing, received a Presidential Citation from the Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA) in recognition of her service as Chair of MOA’s newly established Health Care Mentor Task Force.  She received the citation at the MOA House of Delegates meeting on May 9, held in conjunction with the MOA’s 108th Annual Postgraduate Convention and Scientific Seminar at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, Michigan.

“On behalf of the MOA, I wanted to acknowledge and thank Dr. Doane for her time and leadership in overseeing the MOA Health Care Mentor Task Force.  Her work as an osteopathic internship program director and recent recognition as the 2005 American Osteopathic Association Mentor of the Year award, made her the perfect physician to head up this new initiative.  This MOA Presidential Citation is formal recognition of her commitment to the osteopathic profession,” said John Bodell, D.O., 2006\2007 MOA President.

Dr. Doane received her Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and is a board certified family practitioner.  Accredited as an American Osteopathic Director of Medical Education (AODME), she currently works as an osteopathic internship program director at Sparrow Health System where she oversees training programs for 24 osteopathic interns and 12 Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) base hospital students.  Dr. Doane precepts both osteopathic and allopathic family practice residents in the MSU-Sparrow Health System Family Practice Residency.  In addition, she works as a family practice physician at Mason Family Practice and is an associate adjunct clinical professor for MSUCOM’s Department of Family and Community Medicine.

In addition to her work with students and patients, Dr. Doane is involved in numerous local, state and national osteopathic organizations and activities.  Currently, she serves as president of the Ingham Osteopathic Organization, member of the Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA) Education Committee, a member of the Commission of College of Osteopathic Medicine Accreditation (COCA), vice chairperson of the MSUCOM Curriculum Committee and a Michigan American Osteopathic Director of Medical Education (MAODME) at Sparrow Health System, working in conjunction with the Statewide Campus System.

The Michigan Osteopathic Association represents more than 7,000 osteopathic physicians and students and promotes the image of osteopathic medicine in Michigan by shaping the health care delivery system to better serve the community.  To learn more about the MOA and osteopathic medicine, visit the MOA website at www.mi-osteopathic.org.
