Diversity
Education Series
November 18, 2004
On
Thursday, November 18, Jerome H. Frankel, D.O., clinical assistant professor
in the Department Family and Community Medicine, came to Fee Hall to talk about "Osteopathic
Medicine in the Inner City.” Dr. Frankel was the second speaker in this
year's Diversity Education Series and his presentation was co-sponsored by
the Michigan Osteopathic Student Society.
Dr. Frankel is a primary care physician with nearly 30 years of experience
serving patients in downtown Detroit. He shared his experiences of working
in his community and offered advice for students on how to work with patients
from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, including those who are uninsured or
underinsured.
This Diversity Education Lecture Series is part the Diversity Education Project
at MSUCOM, which brings noted speakers to the college to discuss race, gender,
religion and other cultural issues. The selection of speakers and topics is
based on surveys of MSUCOM students, that have determined the areas of greatest
interest to them as they prepare for careers in medicine.
