EAST LANSING – As part of its ongoing Diversity Education Series, the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, in conjunction with the Colleges of Human Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, offered "Our Multicultural Tapestry," a presentation by Rosa Guerrero.

Ms. Guerrero spoke on Friday, April 11, in the Conrad Hall Auditorium. This Hispanic/Latino presentation, held in commemoration of Cinco de Mayo, included dance, music, poetry and a lecture with a focus on Latino health issues.

Guerrero, from El Paso, Texas, holds a master’s degree in bilingual Education and Curriculum Development and a bachelor’s degree in elementary and secondary education from the University of Texas at El Paso. She is the founder of the Rosa Guerrero International Folklorico and has implemented an intercultural education program for the El Paso public schools. In 1993, Guerrero became the first artist, first living educator, and first Hispanic Woman in Texas’ history to have an elementary school named in her honor by the Governor of Texas. Awards earned by Guerrero include the Valley Forge Freedoms Foundation Award; Women’s Hall of Fame in both the City of El Paso and the State of Texas; and designation as one of the Outstanding Hispanics in the Southwest by the Adolph Coors Company in Golden, Colorado.
