In the period of March to June 2000, 99 percent of patients rated their Rehab stay as good or very good. 98 percent felt the Rehab Center was good or very good in helping them meet their rehabilitation goals
Patients participate in a minimum of three hours of therapy per day. The team works to maximize each person's emotional, physical, cognitive, and social skills.
The Rehab Center does not currently serve persons under 18 years of age, or those who are ventilator dependent, with acute brain or spinal cord injury or burns.
The average length of stay in 1999 was 15 days. Factors influencing stay include severity of injury, medical complications, and previous health status. After admission, a physician will evaluate therapy needed and estimate a length of stay.
In 1999, 394 patients were discharged, and 87 percent returned to community living. 84 percent returned home.
The team will work with the patient and his or her family to determine the best discharge environment, and in the event the patient is unable to return home, the team assists in making other arrangements.
Medicare: Inpatient rehabilitation is paid for by Medicare provided admission criteria are met (evaluated by the Rehabilitation Physician). Admission is subject to review from Medicare.
Private Insurance: Benefits are verified prior to admission and preauthorization is obtained. A case manager works with the patient's insurance to obtain continued authorization.
Private Pay: If the patient is paying for the program privately and needs assistance, he or she should contact the Finance Office at the IRMC.
