SOMA Katrina Relief Effort Presentation

By Craig Reed

February 10, 2005

During winter break, 17 SOMA students from MSUCOM joined SOMA members from other osteopathic colleges in the "Unity Project" which provided supplies and elbow grease to help some of those who were in the path of the hurricane in Long Beach, Mississippi.

On February 9th, five SOMA members talked about their experience. Consistently, the students mentioned how great it felt to be able to go down and help some of the people out, but they also emphasized the incredible amount of work that still needs to be done in the affected areas. Due to this strong need for more assistance, SOMA is planning a second trip during spring break where they will bring additional supplies to Katrina victims as well as participate further in the massive clean up.

If you are interested in donating supplies or participating in the next trip which will be March 5th through the 10th, please contact Rachel Rosenbaum for more information.

Here are a few of the pictures taken during the last SOMA trip. Please keep in mind that when SOMA went down to help in December, it had been several months since the hurricane had hit.
