Nearly two hundred runners and walkers came out on Sunday, October 24, for the College of Osteopathic Medicine's annual "D.O. The Monster" Dash 5K. The event is sponsored by Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) and raises money to benefit local charities.

Proceeds from this year's run will benefit the Area 8 Special Olympics and Tim Francisco, D.O. Dr. Francisco, a 2001 alumnus of MSUCOM, received a double lung transplant on August 30 of this year, and the money will go toward his considerable medical expenses.

The race began outside Fee Hall on the MSU Campus, and participants ran along the Red Cedar River to the Sparty statue and back. Prizes were awarded to overall winner and to the top finisher in each age group. Organizers also provided food and door prizes and after the race faculty and student were on hand to provide OMM treatment for sore runners.

Several runners got into the holiday spirit and came decked out in their Halloween costumes.
