MSUCOM Presents Information Seminar for Premedical Minority Students

November 9, 2002

Are you interested in a career in medicine? Wondering if osteopathic medicine is right for you? Want to go to medical school, but aren't sure where to start? MSUCOM may have just what you're looking for.

The MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine is presenting "So You Want to be a D.O.ctor?" on Saturday, November 9, 2002 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m in E105 Fee Hall. The program is an informational seminar for minority and disadvantaged premedical students. The event is sponsored by the Office of Student Services, the Office of the Dean, and the Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA).

The seminar is focused on minority and disadvantaged pre-medical students and the advisors that counsel them day-to-day. Topics of the seminar include: giving these students and advisors an understanding as to what osteopathic medicine is all about; how to apply to medical school, understanding the admissions process; how to become a more competitive candidate; strategies to increase GPA and MCAT scores; and building a resource network between MSUCOM and the advisors. There will also be a medical student panel, a mock interview session, a financial aid presentation, and a demonstration of osteopathic manipulative medicine.

Dean William Strampel will be among the speakers, which includes several faculty members, staff and advisors, as well as current MSUCOM students. Also, presenting is Paulette Granberry-Russell, J.D., Senior Associate to the President for Diversity and Director of the Office for Affirmative Action Compliance and Monitoring.
