Welcome to the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. We are pleased that you have chosen our web site to learn more about the osteopathic profession.
Whether you are a consumer looking for information to improve yours and your family's health, a prospective student, or a member of the news media, there is something here for you.
Osteopathic medicine, founded more than 100 years ago by Andrew Taylor Still, offers all of the benefits of traditional medicine, plus a whole-person approach, an emphasis on wellness and prevention, and osteopathic manipulative medicine.
For more than a quarter of a century, MSUCOM has been a leader in the osteopathic profession. In 1969, there were five osteopathic colleges when the Michigan Legislature and the governor agreed to create MSUCOM as the first college of osteopathic medicine to receive state funding. The first new osteopathic educational institution in 50 years, MSUCOM paved the way for the creation of several new osteopathic colleges. Today, there are 20 colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States.
The college continues to serve as a leader for the osteopathic profession and for health care in the United States. In the osteopathic profession, our consortium of hospitals has been a national role model for changes to the Medicaid and Medicare systems.
In health care, we continue to offer patients the tools and support to preserve and restore health. We listen to their concerns, we work as partners with them, and we offer them the unique benefits of osteopathic medicine. Osteopathic medicine is the medicine of the future that is available today.
Again, thank you for visiting the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Best Regards,
William D. Strampel, D.O.
