The mission of the Department of Osteopathic Medical Specialties is the education of medical students, development of new knowledge through scholarly work, education of interns, residents and fellows, and provision of direct patient care services.

As of January 1, 2012 the Department of Internal Medicine, College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM), will now be called the Department of Osteopathic Medical Specialties.  This department name was determined with consultation with the University Committee on Graduate Studies and the University Committee on Undergraduate Studies.
