Staff Profile: Sharon Husch
by Dawn Wondero

For the past 13 years, Sharon Husch has been the steady, sometimes only administrative face in a constantly changing Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.

Mrs. Husch began working at MSUCOM in 1985 as a clerk/typist in the Department of Biomechanics. As the department was restructured into the Department of OMM, Mrs. Husch became an office supervisor when James Rechtien, DO, PhD, became acting chairperson.

"For a few years I was the only staff person, but there was always a lot of support from Dr. Rechtien, Dr. Oliver Hayes and Dr. Philip Greenman who served as acting chairpersons. Also, OMM faculty and MSUCOM staff in general were very supportive," she said.

Mrs. Husch is now office supervisor and administrative support for current chairperson, Raymond Hruby, DO.

As office supervisor, she is responsible for much of the necessary paperwork it takes to keep the department running smoothly, as well as a full range of clerical and secretarial tasks.

"My job is never routine," Mrs. Husch said. "Sometimes I'm the custodian, the interior designer and the social director - whatever it takes to meet the daily challenges."

Based on the Staff Excellence Award she received in May, Mrs. Husch is meeting these challenges successfully. Presented by COM-LINC, a staff group which strives to provide linkage across units and enhance communication within the college, the award recognized Mrs. Husch for her ability to induce a welcoming, cooperative atmosphere, along with her courtesy, efficiency and responsiveness to the public and all who work and study at MSU.

Awards or no awards, however, Mrs. Husch said most of all she enjoys the people whom she helps.

"The faculty, staff and students are wonderful," she said. "I am very fortunate to have a job I enjoy."

In her off-time, Mrs. Husch and her husband Tony enjoy entertaining family and friends at their cottage on the Au Sable River.

"Almost every Friday, all year round, you can find us in the traffic jam headed north on U.S. Highway 27," she said.
