Year-End 2008 Cut-Off Procedures (April 2008)

Click here for the memo from the Controller's Office regarding the 2008 Year-End Cut-Off Procedures.
PLEASE NOTE that paperwork will be due to COM Administrative Services before these dates--please refer to the Administrative Services Master Calendar for these deadlines. Also, please remember that forms requiring sign-off from more than one department/college will require extra time.

FMLA Law Update - Urgent! (March 18, 2008)

As of January 28, a Military Family Leave Act was implemented under the National Defense Authorization Act. Please review and post the NDAA notice immediately. NDAA includes:

  1. Military leave for a qualifying exigency-whereby an immediate military need has been declared-(clarity on the meaning of "exigency" is forthcoming)
  2. Military injury caregiver leave for 26 weeks

ANY requests for these types need to be directed to Alicia Bailey (bailey@hr.msu.edu), in Human Resource Records.

Also, new “proposed” FMLA regulations (separate from NDAA) were received on February 11, 2008. Click here for a complete listing of the new “proposed” FMLA regulations.

Comments and questions by employers will be taken by the Department of Labor through April 11, 2008 on the new "proposed" regulations. Once the “proposed” regulations have been finalized, HR will notify the university community of any changes to our current policies and procedures.

MSU Letterhead after Proposal 2 - MSU stationery and other university documents should be adjusted to state that “MSU is an affirmative-action, equal-opportunity employer.” This statement reflects the university’s obligation as a federal contractor to advertise that all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, ethnicity, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

2008 Mileage Rate/Per Diem Change - Click here for information on the mileage rate effective January 1, 2008, and the 2008 per diem changes, or go to the University Travel website. Click here to access the University Travel Per Diem Tables.
