FORT WAYNE, Indiana - Joseph Fortin, D.O., '84 alumnus, Spine
Technology and Rehabilitation Medical Director and Clinical Professor at University
of Indiana, will be presenting the Licht Lecture on November 7, 2002 at the
University of Minnesota, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
The Licht lecture is an endowed lectureship given to a prominent and innovative
physiatrist to benefit the education and clinical competence of Pain Management
and Rehabilitation residents and staff across the country.
Dr. Fortin is a pioneer in the field of interventional pain management. He
is a regularly featured national and international speaker, instructing other
physicians in performing interventional and radiological pain management procedures.
He was arguably the first physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist to
include comprehensive spine radiology in his practice. Dr. Fortin is a prolific
author credited with a sports medicine text entitled "Functional Biomechanics
and Rehabilitation of Sports Injuries," numerous scientific reports and
book chapters on spinal imaging, image-guided injection procedures and spinal
injury mechanisms in athletes.
Born in Bay City, MI, Dr. Fortin currently practices and resides in Chicago,
IL and Fort Wayne, IN.
