OMSP ADMISSION INFORMATION

The OMSP is looking for a diverse group of young people to help carry the program into the future. There are some basic attributes that are expected of all candidates:

  • High school GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • ACT score of 28 or higher or SAT score of 1280 or higher
  • Record of volunteerism and community service
  • Leadership roles and awards
  • Knowledge of osteopathic medicine and time spent with a doctor of osteopathic medicine/osteopathic physician (D.O.)
  • High school seniors with lower academic criteria may apply with a nomination letter written by their school counselor and their principal

 

OMSP GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS

 

Being admitted into the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) undergraduate Osteopathic Medical Scholars Program (OMSP) does not guarantee the student admission into the College following graduation from Michigan State University.  Successfully completing the OMSP does give the student preferential status for admission among applicants to MSUCOM.

 OMSP PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Attend monthly OMSP meetings.
  • Meet with OMSP Director for an individual meeting at least once each semester to assess progress.
  • Meet with a MSUCOM Admissions Counselor once each year to assess progress.
  • Attend premedical/Pre-SOMA and/or other campus organizational meetings.
  • Perform volunteer community service each semester.
  • Interview first year osteopathic medical student.
  • Interview second year osteopathic medical student.
  • Take mock or practice MCAT to gauge your progress.
    (Students who meet the academic performance requirements of a 3.5 science GPA and 3.5 overall GPA prior to applying to MSUCOM are not required to take the MCAT.)
  • Interview and shadow a D.O.
  • Interview a current faculty member involved in research.
                      OR
    Interview a student enrolled in the D.O./Ph.D program.
  • Complete OST 401.
  • Complete academic performance and professional performance requirements by the time of graduation from MSU.   

(Although interventions to avoid failure will be attempted) failure to comply with any of the guidelines above may result in dismissal from the program.
