One the eve of the Hooding and Commencement ceremony,
students from the Class of '08 gathered one last time as medical students
for the Graduation Banquet. Students had a chance to catch up with their
fellow classmates, faculty and staff while enjoying fine food and dancing.
During the Banquet, a number of students, faculty
and staff were recognized with the following awards:
First Place - Heather L. Scheper
Second Place - Jacqueline McClellan Moore
Awarded to graduating students with the best overall academic score from
non-clinical courses.
Amy B. Curry
Awarded to a graduating student who has most clearly exemplified an ongoing
interest and proficiency in the field of family medicine.
Richard L. Bryce
Awarded to a graduating student whose service to the community is exceptional.
 
Steve Martin (husband of Elisabeth S. Martin)
Awarded to the spouse of a graduating student who best exemplifies the
role of a professional's partner.
Lisa Hendricks and Elisabeth S. Martin
Awarded to graduating students who are parents having faced special challenges
Elizabeth M. Vaughan
Awarded to a graduating student on the bases of commitment to community
service, primary care disciplines and service to medically underserved
areas.

Jennifer M. Granger
Awarded to the graduating student who has shown leadership, involvement, and
dedication to osteopathic family medicine.
Samer M. ElFallal and Eric D. Greenberg
Awarded to graduating students who best exemplify educational excellence in
surgery, the surgical subspecialties and anesthesiology.
Catherine E. Cavanaugh
Awarded to a graduating student for exceptional achievement in the field
of osteopathic manipulative medicine.
Moises S. Googe
Awarded to the graduating student who has shown the most promise in didactic
training and clinical skills in neuroscience.
 
Robert B. Stephenson, Ph.D., associate professor, physiology
Awarded to a faculty member who demonstrates excellence in teaching basic
science and seeks to integrate basic science education with clinical
medicine.
Mary J. Hughes, D.O., chairperson and professor, internal medicine
Awarded to a faculty member who is deemed the best role model and instructor
of clinical medicine.
Shirley Siew, M.D., professor, human pathology
Awarded to a faculty member who has demonstrated dedication to excellence
in teaching integrated clinical science in systems courses.
Darryll R. Patterson, M.D., assistant professor, internal medicine
Awarded to a faculty member whose lectures are most clear, coherent, instructive
and well presented.
Mark R. Gugel, D.O., associate professor, osteopathic manipulative medicine
Awareded to a faculty member for excellence in the teaching and practice
of osteopathic manipulative techniques.
M. Beth Courey, coordinator, student organizations/special programs, Office
of Student Services
awarded to a staff member who has worked above and beyond the call of
duty to provide support and assistance to individual students or student
