Vision and Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Osteopathic Surgical Specialties is to develop educational, research, and clinical expertise of the highest quality in the field of surgery and in its subspecialties.

The educational mission includes pre- through post-graduate levels and extends throughout Michigan with the Statewide Campus System. The primary mission is to offer students, interns, and residents the best curriculum and relevant experience, and to make students knowledgeable and proficient in the area of surgical specialties.

The research mission provides both a clinically based research support program and a basic science-based, surgically related research program that encourages surgical outcome research. We are strongly committed to partnering with other faculty in the college to foster research that enhances our ability to use the most advanced medical information for patient care.

The clinical mission is designed to provide an extensive scope and variety of surgical clinical experience for education. Through this, the clinical faculty maintains surgical skills in order to provide an exceptional role model for education. The clinical component also offers first-rate health care and the latest clinical techniques to improve health services for citizens of Michigan.
